Effects of mindfulness-based stress reduction on ICU nurses' resilience and well-being.

Intensive & critical care nursing November 23, 2025 Merve Bat Tonkuş, Hülya Bilgin

An 8-week online Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program improved psychological resilience and well-being among intensive care unit nurses. In a randomized controlled trial with 44 nurses (22 per group), those who completed the MBSR program showed significantly higher resilience scores compared to a control group that received only a single mindfulness information session. The intervention also led to changes in psychological well-being over time. The findings suggest that regular MBSR practice can strengthen coping skills, reduce stress, and support emotional regulation, offering a practical tool to enhance well-being and reduce burnout risk in critical care professionals.
