Measure of Significance of Holotropic Breathwork in the Development of Self-Awareness.

J Altern Complement Med November 13, 2015 Tanja Miller, Laila Nielsen 19 citations

A quasi-experiment with 20 participants in Denmark tested whether Holotropic Breathwork sessions affect self-awareness. Overall positive self-awareness changes were indicated. Novices showed positive temperament changes; experienced participants showed positive character changes. Scores for persistence temperament, interpersonal problems, overly accommodating, intrusive/needy, and hostility were reduced. Temperament changes were followed by an increase in paranoid ideation to a still-normal score. The theoretical conclusion is that Holotropic Breathwork can induce beneficial temperament changes that may positively affect character development and self-awareness.
