Dynamic Manifestations of Eternal Divinity

The Oxford Handbook of Tantric Studies February 23, 2023 David Peter Lawrence

Late Kashmiri nondual Śaiva philosophy reduces mundane, sequential time to a unifying, eternal Time Potency (kālaśakti) of the panentheistic Supreme Śiva. Supported by henological and potentialist arguments, this approach subsumes time contemplatively and explanatorily. The chapter interprets this philosophy through analogies with Western Platonism and Charles S. Peirce's ideas on synechism, tychism, and abduction. The subsumption culminates in a subitist and apophatic realization of the present moment as an "Eternal Now," further elucidated by interpreting the present as a Peircean "infinitesimal."
