Ketamine's psychedelic side effects, which can limit its use for treating suicidal thoughts, may be less intense in patients who have previously undergone electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). In a small comparison, two patients who had received prior ECT reported lower average scores across all domains of a hallucinogen rating scale than one patient who had not. The authors call for more rigorous research to confirm and understand this possible association.
