Ayahuasca serves as both a central theme and a narrative device in two Peruvian novels deeply connected to indigenous knowledge, vegetalismo, and Amazonian plant thinking. In César Calvo's "Las tres mitades de Ino Moxo y otros brujos de la Amazonía" (1981), the integration of indigenous knowledge and ayahuasca-induced visions transforms the story into an innovative literary experience that redefines boundaries between the real and the visionary. In Pedro Favaron's "Puka Allpa. Viaje hacia la selva invisible" (2015), the novel's meaning and the protagonist's transformative experience are guided by ayahuasca and Shipibo-Konibo traditional medicine's ways of thinking, feeling, and healing. Both works contribute to an emerging corpus of fiction where ayahuasca is a protagonist as theme and narrative experimentation.
