Human beings are not just biological, psychological, or social entities but are interconnected parts of a single universal reality, according to Eastern philosophy and transpersonal psychology. The paper argues that dualistic thinking—separating subject from object—is illusory, and true understanding requires transcending this duality through direct transpersonal experience, such as the enlightenment described by Timothy Leary after using psychedelics. Leary's ideas, which resonate with quantum physics and Eastern traditions like Taoism, Buddhism, and Hinduism, suggest that humans are whole organisms woven into a universal entity. This holistic perspective may launch a new transdisciplinary paradigm bridging science and spirituality.
Modern individuals can overcome feelings of loneliness, isolation, and alienation by breaking through to a spiritual pole that provides deeper meanings and moving beyond dual thinking to perceive the true nature of mind. Eastern religious and philosophical traditions address these problems using meditation techniques developed over centuries. Meditation helps achieve a state of nonduality where the idea of the self disappears and subject-object unity arises, leading to absolute peace, harmony, and freedom. People become existentially absorbed in the world, similar to artists and children. Incorporating mindfulness into daily life brings benefits, though molecular mechanisms remain insufficiently studied.
