A method using solid-phase extraction and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry was developed to measure the indole hallucinogens DMT and 5-methoxy DMT in rat brain tissue. Rats received a 5 mg/kg dose of either compound and were sacrificed after 15 minutes. Brain regions were dissected and analyzed to demonstrate the procedure's applicability. Two new deuterated internal standards were synthesized and used for accurate quantification.
