RUSSIAN MYSTICISM AS AN IMAGE OF «THE OTHER» FOR WESTERN ESOTERICISM

Summary
AI-generated from the abstractRussian mysticism is a distinct philosophical, spiritual, and civilizational phenomenon, not merely a variant of Western esotericism. Including Russian mystics such as H.P. Blavatsky, G.I. Gurdjieff, and P.D. Ouspensky unconditionally within Western esotericism is unjustified, as is diminishing the originality of V.S. Solovyov's mysticism, the founder of Russian mystical philosophy. The article argues for mutual recognition of Russian mysticism and Western esotericism as original but closely interacting forms of thinking, which can illuminate previously forbidden aspects of spiritual heritage and address problems of integrity in modern spiritual culture.

Abstract
The article contrasts Russian mysticism with Western esotericism and compares the key characteristics of both phenomena. Russian mysticism is presented not as another «mnemohistorical» narrative, but as a special philosophical, spiritual, and civilizational phenomenon. The author proves the illegality of the unconditional inclusion of Russian mystics (H.P. Blavatsky, G.I. Gurdjieff, P.D. Ouspensky) in the mainstream of Western esotericism, as well as the inadmissibility of leveling the originality of V.S. Solovyov' s mysticism as the founder of Russian mystical philosophy, and underestimation of the Russian mystical-philosophical trends of the late XIX-early XX century, both in Russia and abroad. The author suggests a way of mutual recognition of Russian mysticism and Western esotericism as original, but closely interacting «forms of thinking», leading to understanding of, first of all, previously «forbidden» aspects of spiritual heritage and actual problems of the integrity of modern spiritual culture.
