Abstract
The article analyzes the spread of esoteric Buddhism (Vajrayana) in Russia, including its penetration into non-traditional areas for Buddhism. The reasons for the growing interest are examined: the search for alternatives to materialism, psychological self-regulation (mindfulness), synthesis with other spiritual practices, as well as ecological consciousness. Special attention is given to critiques from the perspective of Orthodox theology: contradictions in anthropological concepts, risks of spiritual delusion, occult elements (mantras, visualizations), and incompatibility with the Christian doctrine of salvation. The dangers of syncretism and the substitution of faith are emphasized.
