Foucault, Marion and the irreducibility of the human person

A philosophical analysis compares Michel Foucault's and Jean-Luc Marion's accounts of the person and self. Marion's phenomenology of the "gift" offers a more compelling explanation of personality because it preserves the intuition, common among personalist philosophers, that persons are irreducible. The article concludes by addressing objections from the Christian philosophical tradition.
