What is needed for the roll-out of psychedelic treatments?

Current opinion in psychiatry July 1, 2024 Stephen N Xenakis, Scott M Shannon 5 citations

Psychedelic treatments are entering mainstream medical care in the United States, but regulation and coherent clinical guidance have not been established. A philosophical divide over whether psychedelic therapy is primarily pharmacological or psychotherapeutic limits resolution of practice delivery. Lykos (formerly MAPS) has submitted an NDA to the FDA for MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD, with a response expected by summer 2024. Australia endorsed psilocybin and MDMA for regulated use in 2023. Multiple phase II and III clinical trials for psilocybin are underway in the US and Europe. Colorado and Oregon have legalized psilocybin differently; Colorado also legalized plants containing ibogaine, DMT, and mescaline (except peyote).
