Mindfulness in the OR: A Pilot Study Investigating the Efficacy of an Abbreviated Mindfulness Intervention on Improving Performance in the Operating Room.

Journal of surgical education January 1, 2021 Brian F Saway, Laurie W Seidel, Francis C Dane et al. 21 citations

A brief mindfulness intervention—a 25-minute training plus a 4-minute skill used before surgery—was associated with significant increases in mindfulness and flow state and a significant decrease in perceived stress among 33 surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical residents. The improvements were most pronounced during complex routine cases. The intervention was designed to fit the busy workflow of operating room physicians and may help counter burnout and distractions.
