Mindfulness‐Based Stress Reduction for Parents of Young Children with Developmental Delays: Implications for Parental Mental Health and Child Behavior Problems

Journal of Applied Research in Intellectual Disabilities July 1, 2013 Cameron L. Neece 303 citations

Parents of children with developmental delays who took part in a mindfulness-based stress reduction program reported significantly less stress and depression and greater life satisfaction compared with those on a wait list. Their children also showed fewer behavior problems, especially attention problems and ADHD symptoms, after the intervention. The findings suggest that reducing parental stress may spill over to improve behavior challenges in children with developmental delays.
