Embodied Cognition and the Grip of Computational Metaphors

Embodied Cognition holds that bodily states and processes are directly involved in higher-level cognitive functions like reasoning, challenging traditional views. This paper presents a concise account of embodied conceptual processing, highlighting advantages over non-embodied accounts, especially regarding metaphors. It details how computational metaphors have influenced theories of cognition and their evaluation. The author argues that embodied cognitive mechanisms operating through computational metaphors may drive resistance to Embodied Cognition, and that Embodied Cognition offers a uniquely compelling account of this.
