Relevance of Buddhist Philosophy in the Present Era

Raj Rajeshwari Journal of Psychological and Educational Research September 30, 2025 D. Kumar

In an era of scientific and material progress, moral decline and spiritual illness have increased. Buddhist philosophy offers a path to eradicate suffering through its core teachings: the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path (Ashtangika path). Right vision and resolution cultivate wisdom; virtue requires proper speech, action, and livelihood; and meditation and mindfulness lead to deeper concentration (Samadhi). Wisdom, attained through virtue and meditation, destroys ignorance and the cycle of rebirth. Practicing the five precepts—non-violence, truthfulness, not stealing, celibacy, and avoiding intoxicants—develops moral character and contributes to a healthy, civilized society.
