Young people turn to new spiritualities for two main reasons: instrumentalism, which includes the appeal of practical benefits, and teleology, which encompasses lifestyle choices, a search for meaning, and responses to personal crises. These findings come from a qualitative, phenomenological study of youth involved in Masnavi reading, meditation, and mysticism groups over the past 5 to 15 years. The research highlights that emerging spiritualities are shaped by broader social and cultural changes, as well as individual intentions and mindsets.
