The Bhagavad Gita and the Psychology of Inner Transformation

International Journal of Creative and Open Research in Engineering and Management July 10, 2026 N R Gopal N R Gopal

The Bhagavad Gita can be read as an early psychological text that anticipates modern counseling and therapy. Arjuna's emotional breakdown (vishada) is one of the earliest recorded instances of such a crisis, and Krishna's guidance blends cognitive behavioral therapy, existential psychology, trauma counseling, and transpersonal psychology. The conversation outlines six therapeutic stages: stabilization, cognitive reframing, self-knowledge, behavioral activation, emotional integration, and transpersonal expansion. Embedded in Indian Knowledge Systems, the Gita offers a comprehensive model for psychological healing from crisis to clarity, addressing human behavior, personality, ethics, and well-being, and remains relevant for mental health and inner strength today.
