Buddhist Philosophy of Mind

Journal of Buddhist philosophy January 1, 2017 Gereon Kopf

This editorial introduces the third issue of the Journal of Buddhist Philosophy, which includes a special section on Buddhist psychology, philosophical reflections on the purpose of Buddhist philosophy, peer-reviewed essays, and book reviews. It highlights contributions on consciousness by Robert Feleppa and Matthew MacKenzie, Thomas Doctor's discussion of transcending perspectivalism in classical Buddhist philosophy, and Brook Ziporyn's essay on including Chinese Buddhist philosophy in broader philosophical discourse. The editor argues that Buddhist philosophy, not just mindfulness practices, can contribute to philosophy of mind and cognitive science by offering frameworks like Second-Person and Fourth-Person approaches that bridge subjective and objective perspectives on consciousness.
