Mystic whispers: The confluence of divine love in Sufi Verse and Tagorean poetry

International Journal of Research in English January 1, 2025 Anil Kumar, Rita Jain

Divine love in Sufi poetry and the works of Rabindranath Tagore converges as a mystical path to God, despite their different historical and cultural roots. Sufi poets like Rumi, Hafiz, and Bulleh Shah express the soul's yearning for union with the Divine through metaphor and music, while Tagore's verses reflect a devotional spirit influenced by Upanishadic and Bhakti traditions. Both traditions use poetry as a vehicle for transcendence, employing metaphors such as the Beloved, Flame, Ocean, and journey to create symbolic landscapes of inner transformation. The paper analyzes selected poems to trace linguistic and metaphorical parallels, concluding that divine love functions as a mode of being that transcends boundaries.
