Effects of Mindfulness-Based Intervention on Sexual Health in Menopause: A Systematic Review.

International journal of sexual health : official journal of the World Association for Sexual Health January 1, 2025 Eslem Altıntaş, Güzin Ünlü Suvari, Ümran Oskay

Mindfulness-based interventions reduce sexual distress and improve sexual desire and arousal in menopausal women, though effects on overall sexual function and satisfaction vary. A systematic review of seven randomized controlled trials with 609 participants from the United States, Iran, India, the Netherlands, and Hong Kong found that programs lasting 8 to 12 weeks consistently lowered sexual distress. Improvements in desire and arousal were positive, but changes in satisfaction and overall function were inconsistent across studies. The variability in intervention types and outcome measures limits firm conclusions, indicating a need for more standardized research to confirm long-term benefits.
