The Therapeutic Efficacy of Psilocybin in a Preclinical Model of Depressive- and Anxiety-Like Symptomology
April 12, 2022 Henry Chafee
A single dose of psilocybin did not clearly reduce depressive- or anxiety-like behavior in rats that had experienced early maternal separation, a model of chronic early stress. The results were mixed and largely inconclusive. This preclinical work highlights the need for further animal studies to clarify how psilocybin might work against depression and anxiety, and suggests important methodological considerations for future research.
