Pharmacists’ perspectives on psilocybin in Canada

A survey of licensed pharmacists in Canada found that 73% lacked formal education about psilocybin, the psychoactive component of magic mushrooms. Forty percent had conversations about psilocybin less than once a month, and 60% had never received questions about it. Most pharmacists were not comfortable making recommendations (75%), monitoring (57%), or recommending doses (64%) of psilocybin to patients. Despite this, pharmacists are open to embracing a role in psilocybin therapy and dispensing. The authors conclude that clinical practice guidelines and increased access to educational materials are needed to improve pharmacists' knowledge and confidence when advising patients.
