Counselors’ attitudes toward psychedelics and their use in therapy

Counseling professionals hold mixed attitudes toward psychedelic use and psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT), but they are more favorable when treatments are medically supervised. Most counselors see potential in PAT and recognize the need for additional research. These findings come from a survey of counseling professionals, conducted amid the psychedelic renaissance—a period of renewed scientific interest in drugs like MDMA and psilocybin for treating mental and substance use disorders.
