Focus on Adolescent Use of Club Drugs and "Other" Substances.

Pediatric clinics of North America December 1, 2019 Janet F Williams, Leslie H Lundahl 22 citations

Adolescents use a wide variety of club drugs and other abusable substances, including both well-known and newly custom-designed compounds, which pose high potential for acute and chronic direct and interactive effects. The article reviews dextromethorphan, flunitrazepam (Rohypnol), gamma-hydroxybutyrate, inhalants, ketamine, lysergic acid diethylamide, methylenedioxymethamphetamine, phencyclidine, Salvia divinorum (salvia), synthetic cannabinoids, and synthetic cathinones (bath salts). It emphasizes the need for vigilance in anticipating and recognizing new effects and drug-drug interactions as novel substances continue to be manufactured and marketed to meet substance use trends.
