Chronic low back pain management: clinical and psychophysiological outcomes of multimodal approaches-a randomised controlled trial on yoga and mindfulness.

BMJ open sport & exercise medicine January 1, 2025 Yusra Saleem, Shamoon Noushad, Sadaf Ahmed et al. 1 citation

A randomized controlled trial will compare Sphinx pose yoga, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), usual care, and a combined yoga-MBSR intervention for chronic low back pain in healthcare providers. Over 12 weeks, the study will measure pain intensity, functional disability, quality of life, heart rate variability, and physiological markers such as cortisol, β-endorphins, substance-P, interleukin-6, and C-reactive protein. Data will be collected at baseline, immediately after the intervention, and at a 24-week follow-up. The trial aims to determine whether these mind-body therapies offer improvements over usual care alone.
