Demystifying Consciousness With Mysticism? Cognitive Science and Mystical Traditions

Mystical traditions, defined as practices and beliefs aimed at breaking down the subject-object dichotomy, can benefit scientific studies of consciousness in three areas: phenomenological research, the problem of the self, and the hard problem of consciousness. The article argues that cognitive science could gain from mystical insights by grounding findings in lived experience, potentially demystifying abstract conundrums.
