PROPOSAL FOR SYMPOSIUM –ANCIPS, 2022 The New Era Of Psychedelic (Hallucinogen) Associated Treatments In Psychiatry-Will It Be A Game Changer?

Psychedelic research, which began in Western countries in the 1930s, was halted by a global ban due to widespread use and side effects. The 21st century has seen renewed interest in this area. This presentation reviews the history of psychedelic research, the reasons for the ban, the neurobiological mechanisms of psychedelics, potential treatments currently under investigation, and future directions.

Abstract

Twenty first century is witnessing a renewed interest in the area of psychedelic(hallucinogen) research . In western countries ,even though researches were conducted in this area as early as 1930s, subsequent ban on psychedelic molecules across the world due to widespread use and reported side effects halted the prospects of such researches.
