Effect of Yoga on Mental Stress, Lipid Profile, and BMI in Wives of BSF Personnel.

Journal of pharmacy & bioallied sciences May 1, 2025 Priti Bhanderi, Rupali Keshavrao Parlewar, Punam Verma et al.

A one-month daily yoga routine (60 minutes of asanas, pranayama, and meditation) significantly reduced perceived stress by 60.73% and improved cardiovascular health among 200 wives of Border Security Force personnel in India. High-density lipoprotein rose by 2.53%, low-density lipoprotein dropped by 9.01%, and total cholesterol decreased by 2.46%. Systolic blood pressure fell by 5.09% and pulse rate by 1.91%. Fasting blood sugar dropped by 2.29%, while body mass index showed a slight 0.54% reduction. Most improvements were statistically significant with medium to large effect sizes. The findings suggest yoga can enhance physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness, though generalizability is limited by the short study duration.
