Death due to consumption of ibogaine: case report.

A heroin addict died suddenly 5-12 hours after orally ingesting ibogaine powder bought online and used for detoxification during addiction treatment. Autopsy revealed congestion of internal organs and pulmonary edema, with no heart abnormalities. The ibogaine concentration was 3.26 mg/L, and morphine and codeine were also detected. Death was probably due to cardiovascular effects of the ibogaine powder, highlighting dangers of unregulated substances purchased over the internet.
