Effectiveness of Ketamine for the Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Clinical neuropsychiatry February 1, 2024 Thales Marcon Almeida, Ursula Raianny Lacerda da Silva, Jeully Pereira Pires et al. 20 citations

A systematic review and meta-analysis of ten studies (five randomized controlled trials, two crossover trials, and three non-randomized trials) examined ketamine's effectiveness for post-traumatic stress disorder. Ketamine led to significant improvements in PTSD symptoms measured by PCL-5 scores at the end of treatment courses lasting one to four weeks, with a standardized effect size of 0.25. However, no significant effect was found 24 hours after the first infusion. High heterogeneity across analyses limits confidence in the findings. The results suggest ketamine may be a promising treatment option, but more trials are needed to establish reliable evidence.

Management of emergencies related to cannabis, its derivatives, and synthetic cannabinoids: an update

Debates em Psiquiatria June 9, 2026 L. Baldaçara, G. A. Rocha, Roberto Mendes Dos Santos et al.

Cannabis, cannabis-derived products, and synthetic cannabinoids cause a range of acute emergencies including anxiety, panic attacks, altered consciousness, psychomotor agitation, cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, and cannabis-induced psychosis. High-potency preparations, especially concentrates and edibles, can produce delayed or more severe intoxication. Synthetic cannabinoids, which often act as full agonists at cannabinoid receptors, carry higher risks of severe agitation, seizures, psychosis, cardiovascular instability, acute kidney injury, and death. Management is primarily supportive, following an A-B-C-D-E emergency framework with benzodiazepines for agitation and seizures, and antipsychotics for persistent psychosis.
