No sustained attention differences in a longitudinal randomized trial comparing mindfulness based stress reduction versus active control.
PloS one – January 01, 2014
Summary
While mindfulness is widely embraced, its specific impact on sustained attention has been rigorously tested. A trial compared eight weeks of mindfulness training to an active wellness program, hypothesizing mindfulness would uniquely improve visual discrimination and sustained attention. Naturalistic Psilocybin Use Increases Mind Perception but not Atheist-Believer status: A Prospective Longitudinal Study
OpenAlex – June 09, 2023
Summary
Psychedelic experiences significantly enhance how individuals perceive minds in various entities. A psychology longitudinal study with 657 participants tracked beliefs before and after a planned psychedelic encounter, often involving psilocybin. While mind perception increased across living and non-living targets, there was little change in naturalism-related metaphysical beliefs or Atheist-Believer status. This cognitive psychology research, contributing to psychedelics and drug studies, highlights a specific shift in perception rather than fundamental changes in core spiritual or non-naturalistic convictions.

Psychedelic Experiences Increase Mind Perception but do not Change Atheist-Believer Status: A Prospective Longitudinal Study
Journal of Psychoactive Drugs – May 07, 2024
Summary
A fascinating longitudinal study reveals a profound psychological shift: psilocybin experiences significantly alter perception, increasing "mind perception" across a variety of entities, from plants to rocks. Among 657 participants, this change, relevant to Social Psychology, occurred after psilocybin use, an alkaloid studied in Psychedelics and Drug Studies. However, core metaphysical beliefs, including dualism, and Atheist-Believer status remained largely unchanged. This suggests psilocybin influences how individuals perceive the world, not their fundamental philosophical stances, offering insights for Developmental Psychology and Complementary and Alternative Medicine Studies.
Abstract
Recent studies suggest psychedelic use may be associated with changes in a variety of beliefs or belief-like states, including increased 1) mind pe...
